RIVERS' COCKTAIL

An intravenous slow injection of from 1000 to 2000 ml of 10% dextrose in isotonic saline to which thiamine hydrochloride and 25 units of insulin are added; used in acute alcoholism. Synonym: Philadelphia cocktail.
