TUSSIVE SYNCOPE

Fainting as a result of a coughing spell, caused by persistent heighten intrathoracic pressure diminishing venous return to the heart, thus lowering cardiac output; most often occurs in heavy-set male smokers who have chronic bronchitis. Synonym: Charcot's vertigo, laryngeal vertigo.
