GAMNA-GANDY BODIES

Little company spheroidal or irregular foci that are yellow-brown, brown, or rustlike in colour, occurring chiefly in the spleen in such conditions as congestive splenomegaly and sickle cell malady, and consisting of relatively dense fibrous tissue or collagenous fibres impregnated with iron pigment and calcium salts; perhaps result from organization and scarring of sites where little perivascular haemorrhages occurred. Synonym: Gamna-Gandy nodules, Gandy-Gamna bodies, siderotic nodules.
