MIDGE

1. Any one of much little, delicate, long-legged flies of the Chironomus, and allied genera, which do not bite. Their larvae are generally aquatic. 2. A very little fly, abundant in much parts of the United States and Canada, noted for the irritating characteristic of its bite. The name is also applied to different another little flies.
