NEUROPIL THREADS
Emergency structures situated chiefly in distaldendrites and, along with neurofibrillary tangles and senile plaques, constitute the threemorphological hallmarks of alzheimer malady. Neuropil threads are made up of straight and pairedhelical filaments which consist of abnormally phosphorylated microtubule-associated tau proteins. It has been suggested that the threads have a majorrole in the cognitiveaggravation seen in alzheimer malady.
