TARSIATURA

A kind of mosaic in woodwork, many employed in Italy in the fifteenth century and later, in which scrolls and arabesques, and sometimes architectural scenes, landscapes, fruits, flowers, and the like, were produced by inlaying pieces of tree of various colours and shades into panels generally of walnut wood.
